Letter from former President Dan Levin (Fall 2007 - March 2009),

Dear BU student,

The tradition of joining the American college fraternity is one of the proudest and most time honored traditions in American society. Ever since the formation of the first fraternities in the early 19th century, Greek life has grown tremendously in the United States. National fraternities have set up chapters throughout the country, made up of brilliant young minds like you who yearn for something more out of the college experience.

Each fraternity has its own chosen Greek letters which have a special meaning along with rich tradition and history. Putting on Greek letters means something as a symbol of brotherhood or sisterhood and members should wear their letters proudly, honoring the great men and women who have passed through the doors of the fraternity before you.

All Professional Fraternities throughout the United States share the common yet complex goal of advancing each student’s professional careers and their lives in a social atmosphere in college. Past alumni of Greek chapters have served as mentors for undergraduate students to help them succeed in life. The band of brotherhood or sisterhood is unlike anything one has ever experienced before and until one truly submerses themselves into Greek Life, the lifestyle cannot be fully explained.

The leaders of today’s professional fraternities are ready to take on their professional challenges in graduate school or in their career path. Greek Life has had a profound effect on American society as more than 3/4 of Congressmen & women have been involved in Greek life during their college careers.

I have been a proud student at Binghamton University and along with the help of the great staff of the Professional Fraternity Council executive board and the executive board of each professional fraternity, I believe that we have made a difference in the lives of so many of our peers. Greek life has truly touched my life in so many ways and I only hope it has done nothing but positive things for you in your life. As I look to the future of the Professional Fraternity Council and the professional fraternities, I see expansion and a sense of unity, bringing together more people and making the college experience all the more enjoyable.
I hope you have an amazing year.
